Alcatel was selected by Korea Telecom to enhance its DWDM Metropolitan Optical Networking Solutions in Korea
August 12, 2004 - Alcatel announced that Korea Telecom (KT) has selected Alcatel to enhance its Metropolitan Optical Network and to meet the increasing demand for broadband services from residential and business users in Korea.
Under the contract, KT will deploy Alcatel 1696 Metro Span DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) solution to increase the amount of traffic that can be transported on existing nationwide metro network by up to 32 times, providing for rapidly growth in network transport and to accommodate the delivery of high-bandwidth data services. KT is now able to offer a wide variety of data services such as Storage Area Networks (SAN) services, IP and Gigabit Ethernet to end-users in Korea.
Alcatel has collaborated with KT on optical networking projects since 2002, including the recent deployment of Alcatel's 1660 SM and 1670 SM, the 2.5G and 10G optical transmission systems
